Context
Spring 1945. La Codosera, a village in the province of Badajoz, close to the Portuguese border. Marcelina Barroso Expósito was ten years old, poor and fatherless. On Sunday 27 May she walked with her cousin, Agustina González, along the road to the hamlet of El Marco. Less than three kilometres out lay a spot called Chandavila.
