A cardinal at the Vatican, and prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith. His signature appears on the Church's recent verdicts on old apparitions. 5 July 2024. With Pope Francis's approval, he wrote that the Rosa Mystica devotion at Montichiari contained nothing contrary to Church doctrine, though with cautions and no ruling on the supernatural. That same year a nihil obstat cleared devotion to Our Lady of Pellevoisin. On 4 July 2025 he granted another for the Litmanová apparitions in Slovakia. Public devotion was approved. Supernatural intervention was not recognised.
