Sunday 19 May 1963. 9:30 pm. A 17-year-old apprentice mechanic named Bushbridge was driving the old Glencoe road outside Mount Gambier, South Australia. Something was waiting beside the road. At six metres, a bright light switched on. The driver was dazzled. The car stopped. The object moved across the road, and the car went beneath it. Oval. Five metres wide. Lights as bright as "the arc lights in electric welding." Then it vanished. It returned at the six mile post and followed the car for three miles. The RAAF filed the whole night under one word. Meteor.

Context

The old Glencoe road links the small town of Glencoe with Mount Gambier, about 27 km to the south east, in South Australia. One landmark along it was a piggery. In May 1963, a teenager on that road had an encounter that would end up in the files of the Royal Australian Air Force.
