June 1989. The Fort Bidwell Paiute Reservation, in a remote corner of Modoc County near the California-Oregon border. Something was coming around Neasha Comanche's home at night. The horses panicked. The dogs went crazy. Something growled and rubbed against the house as it walked by. Her cousin Kenneth Sam, 25, stood guard. Under his spotlight, 40 yards away, was a creature walking on two feet. About 8 feet tall. Big, dark and hairy looking. Silver eyes. It ran toward him. Then it fled. By 23 June, the county sheriff had called in a Bigfoot researcher from Malibu.
Fort Bidwell sits at the north end of Surprise Valley, at the foot of the Warner Mountains, about 32 miles north-east of Alturas. The Fort Bidwell Indian Reservation covers about 3,335 acres and is home to a band of Northern Paiute. UPI called it "a remote section of Modoc County near the California-Oregon border." In June 1989, one family there said they had a visitor.
