Corrientes, Argentina. July 1962. The new Cambá Punta airport had been open for less than a year. Late on a Tuesday night, a light came in over the runway. No flight had been announced. The tower called it. Nothing answered. Witnesses described a sphere that spun and threw off blue, green and orange light. It came down to a few metres above the runway and hung there for three minutes. When people moved toward it, it climbed away at astonishing speed. The airport director, a lawyer, police officers and soldiers all saw something. What exactly they saw depends on which newspaper you read.

Context

Cambá Punta airport opened in late 1961, about 12 km east of Corrientes on National Route 12. Today it is named for Doctor Fernando Piragine Niveyro, and the old control tower is gone. In 1962 it still stood. On the night of Tuesday 31 July, someone in it saw a light.
