October 13, 1973. The airlift to Israel began. Operation Nickel Grass was the Yom Kippur War airlift, and it sent heavy cargo aircraft out of Wright-Patterson AFB around the clock. In the Ohio wave that autumn, its C-141 flights became one of the mundane answers offered for the lights. Journalist John Lasker suggested in The 1973 UFO Flap that its routes lined up with the sighting corridors. Yet the explanation was never applied to Governor John J. Gilligan's amber beam, and none has been tied to the Adams County deputies' sighting at West Union.
