A courtroom where the archive's strange stories sometimes ended. January 11, 1804. Smith stood trial here after the Hammersmith Ghost panic, was convicted of murder and sentenced to death, then respited by the King that same evening. In 1881 Captain Drevar of the barque Pauline was tried here for libel against, and threatening the life of, Commissioner of Wreck Henry Cadogan Rothery, a quarrel partly about the great sea serpent. March 1944. The medium Helen Duncan faced seven counts here, including conspiracy under the Witchcraft Act 1735, and received nine months in Holloway.
