A book of records turns up at the edges of three very different cases. Guinness World Records lists MacFarlane's bear, killed in 1864, as the world's rarest bear. It also names Betania, the 1984 Marian apparition at Finca Betania, as the most recent apparition of Mary with official Church recognition. The Thimble Tickle giant squid of 1878 tells a stranger story. Secondary sources credit Guinness with a weight of 2,004 kg and an eye of 15.75 inches. None of it appears in Harvey's letter, and the current Guinness page on the largest invertebrate does not mention Thimble Tickle.
