An olive grove community in Tehama County's Sacramento Valley, Corning sits near Interstate 5. Summer 1960. Highway Patrol officers Charles A. Carson and Stanley Scott were on Hoag Road, east of Corning, watching for a speeding motorcycle on the night of the Red Bluff incident. Then July 4, 1967. Before dawn, Corning officer Jim Overton, bowling alley owner Jay Munger and Orland officer Frank Rakes watched what they called no airplane. Police logged it as complaint #29. Time opened its essay on flying saucers with Corning. Officers from a Corning also joined the 1942 search at Welles Bridge.
