A small town in the province of Namur, home to about 2,000 people. At its edge stood the Notre-Dame du Sacré-Cœur boarding school, with a replica of the Lourdes grotto in the garden and a hawthorn near the gate. Here the visions of The Beauraing Apparitions began the Belgian wave of 1932 and 1933. Twelve days after they ended, Our Lady of Banneux followed, and only those two sites received Church recognition. Léonie Van den Dijck of Onkerzele had visited both. Ufologist Jacques Bonabot later compared the illuminated cloud of Beauraing with UFO reports.
