Oliveto Citra, province of Salerno. Friday 24 May 1985. The town was celebrating its patron saint, San Macario Abate. About twelve boys were playing in the small square by the iron gate of the old Norman castle. They had followed a falling star heading toward the castle. From behind the gate came the sound of a baby crying. Some saw a light. Some saw a light in the shape of a person. A few saw a young woman with an infant in her arms. They ran into a nearby bar shouting "We've seen the Madonna." The visions would return almost every day for about ten years.
Oliveto Citra is a town in the upper Sele valley, in the province of Salerno. On the evening of Friday 24 May 1985 it was celebrating its patron saint, San Macario Abate. Just off the festive piazza Garibaldi lies a small square. It faces the iron gate to the ruins of the Norman castle.
