Monday, 9 October 1978. Strasbourg. At 22:30, an amateur astronomer on the Boulevard de la Marne saw a big yellow ball in the sky from her flat. She raised her binoculars. The local paper would later call her a knowledgeable witness, someone who could tell the stars apart. Ten minutes later, a smaller ball arrived and joined it. A few moments after that, the luminous pair disappeared suddenly. Across the city, on the Route des Romains and the Avenue des Vosges, other residents told almost the same story. Two days later the paper asked a simple question. A UFO over Strasbourg? The case is still catalogued as unidentified.

Context

In 1978 the Alsace section of the Cercle Français de Recherches Ufologiques, a civilian group known as CFRU, was gathering reports of strange lights over the region. On 10 October 1978 it received several that matched. They all pointed to the same night, the same hour and the same sky over Strasbourg.
