March 2007. A Tuesday evening on the Albanian coast. At about 19:15, two coast guard officers on duty at Seman, in Fier, looked out over the sea. A bright object. Motionless. Hanging on the horizon, about a mile up. They watched it with the naked eye, then through binoculars. It flickered. Its colours shifted from green to blue to red, and the shape of its disc seemed to change. For 20 minutes it did not move. Officer Admir Jemishaj later told the media: "It was something frightening, but at the same time beautiful." No photograph was taken. No official file has surfaced. The story survives in a single newspaper account, copied again and again.
Albania has a small but stubborn catalogue of UFO reports. A glowing object over Cërrik in 1993. A claimed landing with ground marks at Roskovec, in the Fier district, in 2006. Hunters near Elbasan, fishermen off Vlorë, lights over Tirana. Albanian newspapers have gathered these stories into roundups for years, and one of them carries the account of the coast guard at Seman.
