December 5, 1989. Evening in Galicia. An amateur astronomer in O Castro, near Sada, was watching the south-southwest horizon through a telescope. A very bright disc. A gaseous halo. It was slowly descending. The call went to the local Guardia Civil post. Officers went out, saw it for themselves and alerted air traffic control at Santiago. What followed was a long night on the radar screens. Civil and military operators tracked echoes that changed position and altitude between 6,000 and 23,000 metres, turned into three and lingered until 09:30 the next morning. The Air Force filed it under another name entirely. EVA-10, Noya.
