Sighting record / 2014
Tuesday night, 2 September 2014. Over Putatan, on the edge of Kota Kinabalu, something stood up in the sky. Amber light. Upright, like a pillar. It moved slowly across the darkness, or seemed to hang in place for minutes at a time. Many rushed out to witness it. Photos flooded social media. Some called it an alien spaceship. Some folks described it as a sign of doomsday. That first night, meteorologists, policemen and firemen were unable to explain what Sabah was looking at. By the next day, the state's weather chief had an answer. It came from ice crystals in the sky.
