A forest road in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. At its end, people stand in the dark and look north across a valley toward a distant hill. Then the light comes. It starts dim. It brightens. It flickers, swells and fades. And then, sometimes, it comes back. The first dated report comes from 1966. A group of teenagers told a local sheriff. People have reported it almost every night since. Locals say it is the swaying lantern of a dead railroad brakeman. Others have wondered about UFOs. Telescopes tell a plainer story, but on summer nights the crowds still gather.
