Context
Navegantes sits on the north bank of the Itajaí-Açu river mouth, facing Itajaí. In the winter of 1974 the town was already news. On 2 July, fishermen in Gravatá watched a dazzling white, silent disc come in from the sea, land on the water about 100 m offshore and sink. The Navy searched, and sightseers and reporters crowded the beach. At the end of August came a stranger story.
