Late summer, 1977. Little Eagle, South Dakota. A village of about 300 people on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. Something tall and hairy was moving through the brush along the Grand River. Children saw long hairy legs in the bushes. A family heard howling, turned on their truck lights, and watched a tall animal with green eyes run for cover. Then the tribal police saw it too. October 29. Moonlight at the Elkhorn Buttes. Officers followed a creature they judged 8 to 9 feet tall. Then they stopped. They had no weapons for something that size. By December, the sightings numbered in the twenties.
Little Eagle sits on the Grand River in Corson County, South Dakota, on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. In 1977 it was home to about 300 people, "99% Native American". Later accounts give the creature its Lakota names. Taku-He. Chiye-Tanka.
