September 10, 2009. Glen Road, near Lennoxtown. A road on the western edge of town, running out beneath the Campsie Fells. Three people were travelling together in a car. Then, by their account, a colourful beam of light struck it. It did not flash and vanish. The event reportedly lasted for over two minutes. The surviving account describes no craft and no source. Just the beam, the car and the three people inside it. The local paper ran the story under a headline that caught the mood: "The X-Files comes to East Dunbartonshire." No explanation has ever been published.
Lennoxtown sits in Campsie parish, East Dunbartonshire, with the Campsie Fells rising behind it. Glen Road leaves the town on its western edge, heading towards Strathblane and Campsie Glen. It is not a place with a reputation. That belongs to Bonnybridge, about 15 km to the east, the area's well-known UFO hotspot. Nothing ties the two together. But in the autumn of 2009, Lennoxtown had a story of its own.
