October 29, 1970. A country road in Rogaland, Norway. Reidar Salvesen was driving his red Hillman Sunbeam home to Kristiansand when a light brighter than a welding flame forced him to stop. He opened the door and looked up. Ten metres above the car hung a smooth, shining disc, bright as nickel plate, ringed by a gilt edge. It made no sound. Then it shot straight up. Salvesen fell to the road. A crack like a rifle shot. His windscreen burst, scattering glass across the seats. High above, the object became a fireball and vanished. Police found the glass. Military engineers examined the car. They found nothing.
Late October 1970. Reidar Salvesen of Vågsbygd, Kristiansand, worked on the road as a market advisor. That afternoon he was driving home in a red Hillman Sunbeam, heading east on the main road from the Stavanger area. About 3 km past Helleland, in Eigersund, something stopped him.
