February 1925. Talpa, a village in north-east Romania. Stones broke windows. Objects moved around an 11-year-old girl named Eleonore Zugun. Her grandmother said she had swallowed the Devil. The girl called the force Dracu. Countess Zoe Wassilko-Serecki took her to Vienna and kept a daily log. It would hold 3,060 incidents. Then the attacks turned inward. Bite marks and scratches rose on her skin with no visible cause. Harry Price watched it happen. A Munich film company recorded a sitting. Sceptics cried fraud. Others found little evidence to support them. By June 1927, the phenomena had faded.

Context

Talpa was her village, in Cândești commune, Botoșani County, north-east Romania. Eleonore Zugun was a peasant girl, born on 24 May 1913. At 11, she found a coin. She ignored a warning that it was "the Devil's money." She spent it on sweets for herself and refused to share. Her grandmother cursed her. The girl had "swallowed the Devil," and would never be free. The next day, stones broke the windows.
