Sunday, 3 August 2008. A senior detective garda from Portlaoise was on the road home from Dunboyne, Co. Meath. Overhead, four triangular objects were crossing the night sky. He jumped out of his car and filmed them on his camera phone. The fourth triangle broke from formation. It turned anti-clockwise. Then it sent a red, laser-type beam of light down towards the earth. All four moved off to the north-west. Weeks later his footage was the star attraction of Ireland's UFO conferences. Then a newly married solicitor came forward with a much simpler story, and a wedding at the Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
Sunday 3 August 2008. At the Dunboyne Castle Hotel in Co. Meath, close to Dublin Airport, a wedding reception was under way. Out on the road, a senior member of the Garda detective force in Portlaoise was driving from Dunboyne to Portlaoise. His name has never been published.
