Mid-April 1994. Night in the foothills of Mount Rainier. Eighteen-year-old Brian Canfield was driving his pickup home to Camp One, above Lake Kapowsin. Then the engine died. The dashboard went dark. Something came down into his headlights. Feet first. Bird feet, then legs, a torso, wings, a head. It landed about 30 feet ahead with a thud and stood there, staring at him, for several minutes. Nine feet tall. Blue-tinted fur. A face like a wolf. Then it spread wings as wide as the road and flew toward the mountain. The Tacoma News Tribune gave it a name. Batsquatch.
