Sunday, July 6, 1975. Late afternoon on a tobacco farm at Mount Pleasant, Ontario. Joe Borda looked across his field and saw something shiny about 400 yards away. A silver, dome-shaped object, sitting among his tobacco plants. At first he took it for a neighbour's irrigation tank. No neighbour had equipment out that day. Two days later the traces turned up. A circle of flattened, burned plants. A strange oily residue on the ground. Police sent samples to a forensic lab. The answer came back as lightning. The full report was never released, and Borda believed until the day he died that something had landed.
