China's state news agency appears again and again in the archive's Chinese cases. In 1981 it treated the sky spiral over western China as fact. Its third report placed the first sighting over Tibet, with more from Peking and at least 12 provinces. It even suggested the same object had appeared over San Diego. Xinhua also took up the giant red fish of Kanas Lake in 1985, and carried the Meng Zhaoguo incident of 1994 to a national audience. In 2007 Zhuo Yongsheng sent his stills of the Lake Tianchi Monsters to its Jilin bureau.
