Gordon D. Thayer studied radar evidence for the Condon Committee. In the Colorado Springs Airport case of 1967, he worked from ESSA in Boulder, and his analysis pointed toward a ghost echo trailing an airliner. In 1969 he reviewed the 1953 Nemuro sighting in Hokkaido as Case 113-B. He rejected the stars Deneb and Regulus and suggested a lighted Pibal balloon. Not everyone agreed. One case stood apart for him. He called the Lakenheath-Bentwaters incident of 1956 the most puzzling in the radar-visual files, and judged the chance of a genuine UFO fairly high.
