Skyhook was a classified Navy programme of high altitude research balloons, and its name surfaces again and again in the archive. In 1952, Capt. Edward J. Ruppelt of Project Blue Book suggested a Skyhook could explain the Mantell UFO Incident of 1948. Others placed a launch at Camp Ripley, Minnesota, on January 6, 1948. No document confirms or disproves it. April 24, 1949. Near Arrey, New Mexico, balloon engineer Charles B. Moore was preparing a drop test lifted by three 73-foot Skyhook balloons. Then his crew saw something else. The type was also offered for the Cleethorpes glass globe of 1956.
