A sceptic of the UFO field, and a Skeptical Inquirer columnist. Robert Sheaffer returns again and again to the debate that follows a sighting. For Jimmy Carter's 1969 sighting in Leary, Georgia, he found the Lions Club records that fixed the date at January 6, 1969. His answer was Venus. He argued that shadows in the McMinnville photographs meant they were taken in the morning, and Hartmann was persuaded. He favoured Jupiter over Tehran in 1976. After Steve Pierce's 2026 post about the Travis Walton case, he named the tower as the Gentry fire lookout on Rim Road.
