A Russian newspaper, Pravda turns up across the archive as the place where strange accounts went public. In 2004, cosmonaut Vladimir Kovalyonok spoke to it about his Salyut 6 sighting of 1981. Probably a UFO, he said, but not mysticism. That same year it followed Yuri Lavbin's Tunguska expedition out of Krasnoyarsk. On 29 July it quoted his aim to prove a UFO, not a meteorite, had struck. The day after the team finished, the find was in its pages. Earlier, during the 1987 Hrushiv apparitions, Pravda reportedly blamed refraction or Chernobyl radiation, though that article has not been traced.
