Kelly-Hopkinsville

Event 4 stories, 1692 to 1977

Kentucky, 1955. In the Kelly-Hopkinsville close encounter, witnesses said bullets did not hurt the visitors. The case became a touchstone for later researchers. It broke about 70 miles south of the Ohio River clawed hand attack near Evansville, a week after that report, and later retellings merged the two dates. Twentieth century ufologists saw an echo of it in the Spectre Leaguers of Cape Ann in 1692, calling Gloucester a possible Colonial Hopkinsville. Men there were said to fall under musket fire and rise again. In France, the Cussac close encounter of 1967 grew just as famous.
