November 20, 1952. George Adamski, a café owner at Palomar Gardens in California and an amateur astronomer, walked alone into the Colorado Desert. There he said he met a visitor with sandy shoulder-length hair beside a landed saucer. His book Flying Saucers Have Landed, written with Desmond Leslie, and his Venusian Scout Ship photograph became a template for the contactee era. Stephen Darbishire's 1954 Coniston photograph looked almost exactly like that Scout Ship. Critics later traced Adamski's influence in the claims of Salvador Villanueva Medina, Howard Menger and Reinhold Schmidt.
