A researcher and case historian, Curt Collins returns to old flaps and checks them against the original sources. For the 1948 St. Louis and Alton giant bird sightings, he gathered the original newspaper clippings. With Michael D. Wynne, he revived the story of the 1949 Alexandria flying saucer wave. In 2020 he revisited the 1962 Oradell Reservoir flap. He noted that The Record had merged separate reports. His synthesis of Jessie Roestenburg's 1954 Ranton encounter is the main modern account. There, he read the shifting details as memory changing over time, not invention.
