Context
Barrio Rincón lies in Sabana Grande, in south-western Puerto Rico. In 1953 the village had no piped water. At lunchtime, children from the small rural school, Escuela Lola Rodríguez de Tió, fetched drinking water from a natural spring. It rose at the foot of a mango tree in a sugar-cane field.
