Thursday 13 November 2014. Montévrain, about 40 km east of Paris. Julie Berdeaux pulled into the car park of the Intermarché supermarket and parked against a large earth mound. Then she saw a big beast climbing it. She stayed in her car. She took photos. At first she really thought it was a lynx. Within hours, town officials were calling it a tiger. More than 100 police and firefighters, a helicopter with thermal cameras and a Karelian bear dog moved into the woods. Schoolchildren were kept inside. By the next evening the prefecture had ruled out a tiger. The animal itself was never caught.
