February 2011. The eastern mouth of Box Tunnel, on the Great Western Main Line in Wiltshire. Four men in an ultrasonics gang were working by the track. They heard a woman moaning. The noise grew louder. They thought it a joke. Then one of them shone his torch up the hill. A woman in a nightdress stood there, looking down at them. She vanished before their eyes. When they reported it, they were told she had been seen before. By a group of six men. No one has ever named her, or them. The story survives in a single anonymous entry, and in every retelling since.
