January 23, 2021. About 4 pm. Pakistan International Airlines flight PK-304 was cruising from Karachi to Lahore in full daylight. Then the captain saw it. A brilliant white circular object, above the airliner, shining against the sun. He reported it to the control room and filmed it on his phone. The crew called it a "foo fighter". Within days the 41-second clip had gone viral across Pakistan and India. PIA confirmed the report but would not say what the object was. A university scientist said cloud. A skeptic said balloon. The airline's spokesperson kept it simple. "In fact, we might not be able to tell what the object was at all."

Context

PK-304 is a scheduled domestic service of Pakistan International Airlines. Karachi to Lahore. On Saturday, 23 January 2021, it was flown by an Airbus A320, with Captain Faisal Qureshi in command and a first officer reported as Captain Talha beside him. Accounts differ on where the aircraft was. Geo News sources and a PIA spokesperson placed it near Rahim Yar Khan in southern Punjab. Dawn, quoting the airline, put it between Multan and Sahiwal. Both lie along the main air corridor between the two cities.
