Yankalilla, South Australia. A small stone church, about 70 km south-west of Adelaide. In 1994 a new parishioner noticed marks in the white plaster high on the sanctuary wall. Something the others never mentioned. A veiled Madonna. Leaning over a child. She told the rector. He and the bishop waited to see if it would fade. It did not. By the end of 1996 the press had come, pilgrims followed, and the Bishop of The Murray blessed Christ Church as a shrine. Devotees said the image changed over the years. A pietà. A rose. Perhaps a third figure. A Marian image, in an Anglican church.
