Walsingham Parva, Norfolk. The tradition says 1061, in the time of King Edward. A widow named Richeldis de Faverches, lady of the manor, asked Our Lady how she might honour her. The answer came three times. In spirit, Richeldis was led to Nazareth and shown the house where Gabriel greeted Mary. She was asked to build a copy. She was given its measurements. Then the carpenters failed. Richeldis prayed all night. In that night, the ballad says, Our Lady and her heavenly ministers raised the house with angels' hands and set it more than 200 feet away. A small wooden house became one of medieval Europe's great shrines. England's Nazareth.
