November 4, 1957. Around 3 a.m. in Elmwood Park, a suburb west of Chicago. A police squad car's headlights and spotlight dimmed almost to nothing. The officers climbed out with a flashlight. Then they saw it. An orange fluorescent light, coming down perhaps 50 to 100 metres away. What followed was a chase. The object seemed to play "hide and seek" with the patrol, dipping and rising until the men reached a cemetery wall. There it hovered. Then it climbed and was gone. It came about a day after the Levelland reports in Texas. The officers would only read about those after their shift ended.

Context

The first days of November 1957 were restless ones. On the night of November 2 and 3, drivers around Levelland, Texas reported glowing objects and failing cars. The following night brought reports from White Sands and Alamogordo, New Mexico. About 24 hours after Levelland, the story reached the suburbs of Chicago.
