Tuesday, 18 January 1994. Early morning over Santiago de Compostela. An intense light crossed the sky, leaving a trail. Residents compared it to the full Moon. It flew low. It flew slowly. No sonic boom followed. Astronomers at the university observatory traced its path west, toward the hills north of the Ría de Muros e Noia. They searched and found nothing. Then, in April, a call came. On a pine slope above the hamlet of Cando de Arriba, a crater had been torn into the ground. Full-grown pines lay thrown downhill. No meteorite was ever found. Scientists spoke of gas eruptions and landslides. Ufologists had another name for it. The Roswell gallego.

The light

Tuesday, 18 January 1994, early morning. One account puts it at around a quarter past eight. An intense light crossed the sky over Santiago de Compostela and the A Coruña area, leaving a trail. Residents compared it to the size of the full Moon. One account says hundreds of people saw it, and that it lasted almost a minute, perhaps more.
