May 31, 2026. Early evening on a small farm outside Campo Largo, in Paraná. Mayk Leão's animals were extremely agitated. An electric fence by the horses lay knocked down. Then came a noise over the roof, like a ratchet or a machine running. He raised his phone toward the hills across the river and filmed a cluster of coloured lights. "I think I just saw a gigantic alien ship," he said. Within days the clip had millions of views. The Brazilian Air Force and the intelligence agency ABIN issued statements. Drone pilots went looking for the source. And a small rural influencer watched his following climb past 2 million.
Mayk Leão was 31, by one report. He ran a farm-animal rescue on a rural property in the Itambezinho area of Campo Largo, in the Curitiba metropolitan region. He lived alone there, with no close neighbours. From his land the view runs across a river and dense forest to a line of hills, toward São Luiz do Purunã.
