Tuesday 25 May 1971. Ten minutes to eleven at night. Eunice Rose, 36, was driving her 1956 Austin A30 home to Hinckley after visiting friends in Odstone. At Belcher's Bar, in western Leicestershire, she saw a glowing object ahead of her. It was moving towards Odstone. She turned right onto the A447. The object passed over the car. Her headlights dimmed. The engine lost power. The radio stopped abruptly. Above her was a flat circular disc, and it bathed the countryside in light. An 11 year old boy, Terry Evans, saw it too.
A quiet junction in western Leicestershire. Belcher's Bar is a hamlet in the parish of Nailstone, where the A447 meets the B582. The road runs north to Ibstock and south to Hinckley. A short drive away is Odstone, a village on high ground between two river valleys. On the evening of Tuesday 25 May 1971, Eunice Rose of Welwyn Road, Hinckley, had been visiting friends in Odstone. She was 36. She was driving home in a 1956 Austin A30.
