Monday, 17 July 1967. Late afternoon at the edge of a wood near Arc-sous-Cicon, in the Doubs. Joëlle Ravier, fifteen, the village carpenter's daughter, was out with three small children. Then she saw them. Four small beings, about 1 m 10 tall. All black. Heads as big as a potato. Prominent bellies. As soon as they saw her, they fled, skimming the ground at incredible speed. As they ran, they exchanged what she called a musical language. The children came home badly frightened. That night a circular, incandescent object crossed the sky over Franche-Comté. Within days, the village was living on Martian time.

Context

Arc-sous-Cicon is a small village in the Doubs, about 20 km from Pontarlier. What happened here rests on a handful of newspaper articles from that week, and on the work of later investigators. No craft appears in the 1967 press. Nobody photographed the beings.
