Mascot

Place 3 stories, 1954 to 1983

Sydney's airport at Mascot had a tower, an airfield and radar screens that kept turning up in the archive's Australian cases. In 1954, later accounts of the Sea Fury incident near Goulburn placed a ground witness in the Mascot tower, though no 1954 document records one. In 1967, Duggin checked with Mascot airfield and Mascot radar over the Canterbury bowling-green saucer. June 1983. Controllers at the Area Approach Radar Centre saw unidentified contacts moving like aircraft, prompting Operation Close Encounter at RAAF Williamtown. Only Mascot could see them. Tests later traced them to radar interference called running rabbits.
