On the evening of 10 July 1947 we were coming up over the mountains between here and Stowmanville, Georgia. The car was going at 55 mph and we could see the sky through the windshield. R. Woodruff said "look at the cut in the sky." I looked and saw a bluish black vapor trail. The clouds were very scattered and were from 2000 to 10,000 feet. The object came through and cut the clouds leaving a line where you could see the blue sky, like a knife has cut it. The object was featureless, similar to a well, as if you cut a field in half. The estimated course of the object was approximately north to south. The trail was bluish black in color, very easily distinguished from the blue sky. The trail was more or less a band across the sky in a straight path. There were no lights.
