This August 1949 technical report from the US Air Force Air Materiel Command presents Project Grudge's investigation of unidentified flying objects through January 1949. Drawing on consultants including Dr. J. A. Hynek, Rand Corporation, the Air Weather Service and Dr. P. M. Fitts, it explains most of 244 incidents as balloons, aircraft, astronomical phenomena, hoaxes or psychological errors. It concludes the objects pose no direct threat to national security and recommends reducing the investigation in scope.
Incident 536 off coast of Oreyan -- 12 November 1647 The information given here is too minor for a definitive conclusion to be drawn senser... the identity of the objects observed. It is probable, however, that they were two parts of a meteor that had broken up entrance into the earth'. atmosphere. The length of time in sight is undul, great, but one wonder whether this sight not have been grossly overestimated for psychological reasons. Otherwise, the scanty description favors the meteoric hypothesis.
