This August 1949 technical report from the US Air Force Air Materiel Command presents Project Grudge's investigation of unidentified flying objects through January 1949. Drawing on consultants including Dr. J. A. Hynek, Rand Corporation, the Air Weather Service and Dr. P. M. Fitts, it explains most of 244 incidents as balloons, aircraft, astronomical phenomena, hoaxes or psychological errors. It concludes the objects pose no direct threat to national security and recommends reducing the investigation in scope.
Incident 793 --- between Las Cruces, on January 11th Santa V-2 firing grounds --- Dec. 10, 1917 The information given here is insufficient for any conclusive conclusion to be drawn, but it is not insoluble that the object may be required as meteorite. The estimated size in style is quite large, however, and, if a meteor, the object could have had a preserved vapor trail. The "solar specular reflection which seemed to assume its intensity" could, of course, have come light from the meteor itself, blended with daylight. Once again, it is unfortunate that are ostralled observations were not made.
