This August 1949 technical report from the US Air Force Air Materiel Command presents Project Grudge's investigation of unidentified flying objects through January 1949. Drawing on consultants including Dr. J. A. Hynek, Rand Corporation, the Air Weather Service and Dr. P. M. Fitts, it explains most of 244 incidents as balloons, aircraft, astronomical phenomena, hoaxes or psychological errors. It concludes the objects pose no direct threat to national security and recommends reducing the investigation in scope.
insidekh 172 - alaska - 1947 (exact date not known) From the so many information available, it appears I= probable that this object was astronomical, unless the report represents a highly curbied and subjective account of a daylight noteworthy. (The time of the elighting is not given, but it is assumed from the description of the incident that it occurred during daylight hours.) It should be noted as a matter of general record that one of the reports received at observatories of recognized fireball falls are so blighty colored and garbled that if the astronomer did not have independent evidence of the identity of the object, it would be impossible to determine from these reports.
