Unidentified Flying Objects Reports

Defense Intelligence Agency · 140 pages · text by OCR

This Defense Intelligence Agency release gathers Army and Air Force intelligence reports on unidentified flying objects from several countries. It contains translated Finnish Border Guard reports of glowing spheres and lights seen near the Soviet border, a Costa Rica sighting near Puntarenas, and Afghan news items from 1959 on bright objects over Kandahar, Mazar-i-Sharif and Kabul. Other reports describe objects over Kuldja in Sinkiang, China. A 1969 OSI report from Nakhon Phanom, Thailand concludes that a pilot's ground sighting was probably a religious procession carrying ceremonial drums.

## 1. Sighting from Foot Sinking of unidentified flying object

6. FRANC 1953.

It about 11 o'clock one clear starry night in the spring of 1955 an unusual object had been seen in the sky from NULVA flying from the distant west in an easterly direction at great speed and at a great altitude (at a much higher altitude than the normal one for aircraft in that part of the world). When over and somewhat north of NULVA the object had abruptly changed its course from a horizontal one to a vertical one and, as if rotating on its own axis like a bullet, had shot upwards still higher and disappeared from sight. It had remained in view altogether five or more minutes. The object had the brilliant light yellow colour of a star and the size of one of the larger stars. In its course it had left a trail of light which had changed in colour from bright yellow to bright orange and then to duller orange before fading away.

## 2. Linding in West virginia of radio waves equipment

Spring 1959.

In the spring of 1959 a radio-ondes apparatus had been found by a hunter on the ground some forty kilometres north-west of NILLA on the crest of a spur two or three kilometres south of the point where the spur branched off an east-west range of hills (i.e. at approximately 44°11'N, 80°55'E). The apparatus consisted of a closed white plastic or cardboard box, the diensions of which were approximately 30 x 20 x 20 cm. Outside one end of the box were four square vanes, also of white plastic or cardboard, on the ends of two steel wires or thin rods that rotated a slightly sturdier rod which penetrated the box and in turn, by means of a small oog wheel, rotated a key over raised ribs of some bright metal on a claret coloured plastic dial. The dial, about six centimetres in diameter, was on a panel which was fixed to the side of the box and which also had on it what looked like a small radio valve and one or two other devices. Also fixed in the interior of the box to one of its sides, at the end where the rotating rod entered, was a container in which were two batteries, the dimensions of one being approximately 9 x 6 x 5 cm and of the other 9 x 5 x 2' cm (v. diagrams on the page to this report).

The larger battery was carried in duasion to the effect that it was good for six months use and the smaller one to the effect that it was good for twelve months use. Level with the battery container and facing it was a small metal fixed to the opposite side of the box. Lying loose in the box, obviously having no fixed, were a thin wire coil wound round a metal rod about three and a half centimetres long and two hollow cover rings about five centimetres around a steel rod. There were several other devices and rings in the box. Originally across the exterior of one side of the box, initially installed in Russian Radiozond - no need to return. An end of the wire had heard that several other radio-conos of the
