Defense Intelligence Reference Document Negative Mass Propulsion

Defense Intelligence Agency · 43 pages · text from the file's own layer

This Defense Intelligence Reference Document from the Defense Intelligence Agency is dated 3 January 2011. It was produced under the Advanced Aerospace Weapon System Applications (AAWSA) Program as part of a series of advanced technology reports. The report asks whether negative mass exists and whether it could be used for propulsion. It concludes that one route might be an ultra-light form of matter that could have gathered at the Moon's center. Reaching it would take a tunnel dug with thermonuclear shape charges.

Inserting (3-6) into Einstein's nonlinear gravitational field equations, one obtains four
nonlinear partial differential equations ( K = 8;r y / c 4 ) given by
[ ' ']o 2, 1
,_,,-, 2 2 I Cu J<p - Ocp -
-1q,~-1<T,, ~e -2V q,+V <T---, +(--:c-J +(-,-1
r DP/o ofio) 0&10) (7)
- ' - ' ,,,-o, [ I CG (aq,)' (aq,)']-A.p =-KT =AT, =Kp,~ =e --- - + -11 1 - -- r Cflc Cflc Cfk (8)
T ' ,,,,_"' [CT' 1 D<T (aq,)' (cq,)']-Kp.,,,=-1<,=e vcr---+- +-
-- - r Oflc OP!c Of% (9)
aq, aq, a(T
-KT =2---r-
12 i)f/oi)f!o i)ffo" ( 10)
In solving these equations Bondi assumes that cp is small, which then also implies that
because of (5) and (6) c, is small by the second order, reducing the solution of the
problem to the linear Laplace equation of the scalar Newtonian potential in empty space.
Making this assumption, Bondi can reproduce the uniform acceleration of the mass
dipole, as it is expected from an elementary analysis. It is here that we must disagree
with Bondi 1 , because it can be shown that the nonlinearity of the gravitational field
equation leads to a very different result. The nonlinearity also sheds light on why it is
so difficult to separate negative from positive masses, whereby negative masses are all
around us, but imprisoned by positive masses.
1 The author had the pleasure to meet Prof. Bondi on a common flight from Graz,
Austria in 1993 (we both are members of an academy which had a meeting in that
year in Graz), and ask him how his solution can be correct since it does not include
the field of the positive gravitational field mass of a mass dipole. This problem will
be analyzed in the next section, and its solution has far reaching consequences.
